Babcock gets the nod

As has been speculated ever since Steve Yzerman was picked as the head man in charge of the Canadian Olympic team, Mike Babcock has been named as the team's head coach for the 2010 Olympic games. Babcock is certainly one of the top coaches in the game, and may have an argument to being placed at #1. Since he took over for the Ducks in the 2002-2003 season, no coach has won more postseason or regular season games. He also has won at least 50 straight games each season he has been with the Wings, and has sipped from Lord Stanley's Cup. Unfortunately, he has also lost twice in game 7 of the Cup finals (with the Ducks in 2003 and the Wings this past season). So, with a little luck, Babcock could have 3 Cups. Regardless, he is a very deserving choice and my congratulations goes out to him.

Other Wings who might get some Olympic love from their countries:

Datsyuk-Russia
Zetterberg, Homer, Franzen, Sammuelson, Lidstrom, Kronwall- Sweden
Filpulla- Finland
Hudler- Czech Republic
Hossa, Kopecky- Slovakia
Rafalski- USA

Ericsson (Sweden), Leino (Finland) and even Ozzie (Canada) might also get a chance. All in all, though, there will be a lot of Red Wings off last year's team that will be representing their countries in the Olympic games.
