Laimbeer leaves Shock and may eye NBA job? Dare we even speculate?

MLive, the Detroit Free Press and WXYT are all reporting that Big Bill is leaving the Detroit Shock after a highly successful run with the team. Under his guidance, they went from the worst team in the league in 2002 to a 3-time WNBA champion. Here is a link to MLive's story: http://www.mlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2009/06/bill_laimbeer_leaving_detroit.html

Joe Dumars has gone on record and said that Michael Curry was safe as the Pistons coach. And, I'm not sure the Davidson family would want to pay for Flip Saunders's contract, Michael Curry's contract AND Laimbeer's. But, the timing is interesting and its not like Laimbeer doesn't have a relationship with Dumars. For now, I'll think of this as only a coincidence and wish Bill luck as he tries to find employment in the NBA. Based on the recent hiring of untested rookie coaches like Curry and Vinny Del Negro, though, I doubt Bill will have to wait too long to get his first gig.

Update: ESPN is currently reporting that Rick Mahorn is expected to be named the new Head Coach of the Detroit Shock.
