Chelios done as a Wing

According to MLive,Chris Chelios is done as a Red Wing. Not a surprise at all considering he only played 28 games this season and only 6 times in the postseason. At this point in his career (and it is amazing that he is still playing at 47) he is no more than a 5-6 minute player on a bad team. The Wings are a good team and they are right to cut bait with him. If anything, they waited too long to cut bait with him. Last year, after the Cup run, Holland inexplicably re-signed Chelios and paved the way for Kyle Quincey to be waived because we could only have 8 defenseman on the roster. Had Chelios not been re-signed, Quincey would still be here and would be a potential contributor on the 3rd pairing next season. Instead, he is playing in the Kings top 4 and finished the year with 38 points in nearly 21 minutes a nights. Oh well.

But, Chelios was a great player with us for a long time and his 2002 season was simply amazing. To be a finalist for the Norris Trophy at the age of 40, and to mentor Jiri Fischer as well as he did that year will never be forgotten. He also was a part of 2 Cup runs and was great for the city. So, thanks for the memories Chris. You will never be forgotten.
