Jackson's dream season continues

  • Great game, huh?
  • -A great pitching duel between two of the top 15 starters in all of MLB. Jackson had some of his best stuff all year and Lee settled down after the 2nd inning. I was really impressed with a couple of those long at bats by Laird and Polanco during the innings where Lee started to get going a little bit.
  • -Laird continues to swing a good stick and have a good approach at the plate. You take away that one bad month (and I know you can't) and he has an OPS that would approach .800. He did have an uncharacteristic passed ball and looked a little sloppy blocking some other balls in the dirt. But, he is due for one of those games every now and again. Overall, he continues to impress me.
  • -Nice to see Anderson get the two RBI but his value to this team comes with his speed and defense. But, he continues to make baserunning errors and he needed to take charge in centerfield a little more than he did. When Guillen comes back, somebody is leaving. With the way Raburn and Thames have been swinging it, and with the platoon that Ordonez and Thomas now have going, who looks to be the odd man out? It seems obvious as of today that it is Anderson.
  • -Zumaya has the worst luck with injuries. Nothing new, I guess.
  • -Seay struggled a little bit but came up huge against Choo and Hafner. BTW, how far has Hafner fallen these last couple of years?
  • -Thank goodness for that HR by Thames in the 8th. He is what he is. He will strike out a lot and have a lot of weak at bats. But then, he will also run into one b/c he is so "country strong."
  • -Rodney had a shaky 9th but it should be noted that if Inge does not make that throwing error and/or if Cabrera scoops up that throw, then we get out of that inning with just one walk allowed. It is frustrating to watch but he entered the game with the lead and that is how he left it. Good enough for me.
  • -How great would a sweep feel before the All Star break?
